Remember last year when Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 54, was acquitted of the second-degree murder charge against him, by a California jury, for shooting and killing 32-year old Kate Steinle? Why? The jury wasn't allowed to see this illegal alien's list of SEVEN felony convictions and FIVE previous deportations because it would be INFLAMMATORY. The jury said it was an accident. The gun just "went off."
Zarate was an illegal alien, with 7 felony convictions, who had been deported from the United States 5 times. He was in the United States illegally and in possession of an illegal handgun. It was expected that Zarate would be deported, rather than released back into the United States, after his not-guilty verdict. Kate Steinle's murderer is still here and now claiming that he has been unjustly treated by the U.S. government.
Here's what Kate Steinle's brother said after the non-guilty verdict:
"I’m stunned that they couldn’t even get him on using the weapon. I'm not surprised, however, because of the epic failure that led Zarate to be on the streets in the first place. I own a handgun. I know that guns don’t just go off. But you have a jury full of people, the vast majority of which probably haven’t shot a gun before and don’t know the intricacies of how a gun works convinced by the defense that that's what happened."
Jeff Session's statement on verdict:
“When jurisdictions choose to return criminal aliens to the streets rather than turning them over to federal immigration authorities, they put the public’s safety at risk. San Francisco’s decision to protect criminal aliens led to the preventable and heartbreaking death of Kate Steinle. While the State of California sought a murder charge for the man who caused Ms. Steinle’s death—a man who would not have been on the streets of San Francisco if the city simply honored an ICE detainer—the people ultimately convicted him of felon in possession of a firearm. The Department of Justice will continue to ensure that all jurisdictions place the safety and security of their communities above the convenience of criminal aliens. I urge the leaders of the nation’s communities to reflect on the outcome of this case and consider carefully the harm they are doing to their citizens by refusing to cooperate with federal law enforcement officers.”
President Trump on verdict:
"You saw what happened with beautiful Kate Steinle. This guy he said he didn’t know it was a gun. Oh, he didn’t know. He didn’t know it was a gun. Right. That’s his new line. Do you notice the federal government came in and brought another suit against him, right? That was a total miscarriage of justice ... he didn’t know it was a gun. The real issues we are facing are the drugs and gangs pouring into our country."
What a slap in the face. Kate and her father Jim were walking on San Francisco’s Embarcadero on July 1, 2015, when Steinle was struck by a bullet that ricocheted off of the pier.
“She was having trouble breathing and I couldn’t figure out what happened,” Steinle’s father said. Kate's father watched her die on that San Francisco Pier when she was shot. The last words she said were, "help me, Dad."
BTW, I have friends with children who are in prison for lesser offenses than this based on circumstantial evidence. Why? Because of their RAP SHEETS. The jury wasn't allowed to see this illegal alien's list of SEVEN felony convictions or FIVE previous deportations because it would be inflammatory?
Laughable. We treat illegals better than our OWN PEOPLE. I sat on a Grand Jury once for murder cases and the first thing we were forced to review was RAP SHEETS AND MUG SHOTS. States lock citizens up for looking funny if they have a long rap sheet. But, we should let some illegal alien in California go, with 7 felonies and 5 deportations under this belt, who shouldn't even be here, because says he didn't know he was holding a gun and it went off and killed a young woman by accident? And now he says he has been unfairly persecuted? Joke. HOW STUPID ARE WE?
