The Trump administration has announced they will defund Planned Parenthood if they do not separate abortion from family planning and contraception. Women’s health clinics that provide abortions or refer patients for abortions will be cut off from Title X, the only federal program dedicated to paying for birth control. The new rule will NOT prohibit all counseling about abortion but will require a “physical as well as financial separation” between entities that receive Title X funds and those that provide abortions.
Why is this necessary? Because Planned Parenthood uses Title X funds to attract low-income patients for contraception and STD screening and then literally promotes abortion sales contests to push abortions on women, for profit. They harvest organs from late-term fetuses, without the mother's consent, and sell them for $200-$1000 apiece. They do not offer ultrasounds, adoption counseling or other tools to help vulnerable mothers make sound decisions about pregnancy. Planned Parenthood's main focus is to profit from the abortion of America's children. Period. America must find a better way to ensure sound family planning. Abortion should not be the first and only choice.
Planned Parenthood is the country’s largest abortion provider. They perform over 40% of America's nearly 1 million abortions each year, or roughly 400,000. If Planned Parenthood wants to continue to receive Title X federal funding for contraception and family planning services, they will need to physically and financially SEPARATE abortions from Title X funded contraception and family planning. Last year, America aborted one out of every 5 babies. If we don't repopulate ourselves, someone will do that for us. Think about that.
Title X provides federal funding for contraception, STD screenings, and other reproductive health care to low-income people. Title X does not, and has never, paid for abortions. Federal law prohibits any government dollars from paying for the termination of pregnancies. Organizations like Planned Parenthood often use Title X grants to subsidize birth control, STD screenings, and other reproductive health services for low-income patients who may lack health insurance coverage.Launched in 1971, Title X was meant to fulfill President Richard Nixon’s promise that “no American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition.” Planned Parenthood currently uses Title X funding to provide contraceptives to millions of low-income women.
Title X has grown steadily over the past 40 years, from a $6 million budget in 1971 up to $286 million in 2017. Some 4,100 clinics use Title X funding to provide low-cost or free contraception to their low-income patients, typically those who lacked health insurance coverage.
Planned Parenthood has a monopoly in the industry and exists in many places where other family planning clinics don’t. There are 103 counties in the United States where Planned Parenthood is the only provider of publicly funded contraceptives. In an additional 229 counties, Planned Parenthood serves the majority of women who are low-income and qualify for government help paying for birth control.
