House Intelligence Committee says NO evidence of collusion between Trump camp and Russia and NO evidence that supports the Intelligent Community assessment that PUTIN tried to help Trump win.
Rep. Michael Conaway (R-Texas), who oversees the House probe, charged that his committee has found no proof that Trump's campaign colluded with the Russian government, and said they disagreed with the narrative of the Intelligence Community that Putin tried to aid Trump: "We disagree with the narrative that they were trying to help Trump."
Conaway defends the lack of subpoenas to Trump associates by saying “we are not entirely confident” that the subpoena process would get them more info than they already have. Conaway said the Trump Tower meeting was thoroughly investigated, and Rob Goldstone exaggerated initially about what Russians would provide to Don Jr. The Committee saw no need to subpoena Don Jr. for conversations with his father that Don Jr. said were protected by attorney-client privilege. Conaway also said they will not hold Bannon in contempt.
Conaway said the committee will hand the Democrats a 150-page report on Tuesday. The report will include recommendations on how to combat future election interference, Conaway said.
The announcement means that the Senate Intelligence Committee is the only investigative body left on Capitol Hill probing Russia's interference in the 2016 election. Mueller's independent probe, meanwhile, continues, and is looking into whether Trump obstructed justice, in addition to his campaign's ties to Russia.
