A man who hates President Trump AND Colin Kaepernick opened fire in the lobby of the Trump Doral Hotel and Golf Club in Miami around 1:30am and injured five police officers. Jonathan Oddi, 42, spewed anti-Trump rhetoric in the lobby, draped a flag over the counter, and started yelling and screaming about Trump and Kaepernick. Staff called 911 to report that shots had been fired in the hotel lobby. The shooter was wounded after exchanging fire with responding officers.
“This subject came in removed a flag from a flag pole at the rear of the complex and brought it into the hotel lobby and draped it over the counter and began to yell out anti-President Trump rhetoric. These officers did not hesitate for one second to engage this individual who was actively shooting in the lobby of the hotel. He had an American flag that he took from the resort and draped over the counter. We’re going to take it from there and see what his real motives are and how far we get into that point, and then we’ll have that discussion with the FBI to see how far this goes. This was a definite attempt to lure officers into the lobby of that hotel.”
In total, five officers were wounded during the encounter. One officer reportedly received a broken wrist. Oddi has been taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center.
In October 2017, Oddi posted a meme to Instagram that accused former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick of not being a “hero.” Oddi goes on to say that “Colin worries he doesn’t have an NFL career and kneels for popularity.” Oddi was angry that President Trump was going to invite Kaepernick to his race summit.
During the shooting, Oddi is accused of shouting “anti-Trump rhetoric.” According to his LinkedIn page, Oddi owns a business named Pegasus Minerals and Gemstones in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale-area and also in Tucson, Arizona. Oddi says that he studied business and the travel industry at Universidad del Salvador, a Jesuit university in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Oddi goes by JonnyMyami on Instagram and writes on his page, “God is preparing you for your destiny.”
The Secret Service has said that there were no protectees in the region of the golf club at the time of the shooting. The shooting is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Along with those agencies, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security responded to the scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Officials are not investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. Way to go, media. Keep spreading racial hate. Also, another shooting in Florida? First Pulse. Then Ft Lauderdale Airport. Then Parkland. Now this. They are really trying to push gun control and turn the state blue, aren't they?
